The dough of Colombian (corn) empanadas is too delicate for baking; in other words, it usually crumbles or tears when cooked. For this reason, we recommend frying traditional-sized empanadas in hot oil for 6 minutes, and small ones for 3 minutes.
But… what about those who want a healthy diet and no longer eat fried meals? Despite being a risky option, baking is still possible – you just need to choose an oil you like (we recommend grapeseed or avocado oil) in its spray version. Simply spray the empanadas at your leisure.
The amount of oil will depend on your personal preference, but it is important to keep in mind that the more oil you apply, the lower the chances of them breaking open. Then put them in the oven or air fryer for 20 to 25 minutes until browned.
